It should not be
A preposterous idea
That a woman, or five of them,
Could be entrusted with land, for Heaven’s sake.

It will women
Who till the soil
Who grow the food
Who raise the flax
Who dig the clay
Who haul the water
Who plant the herbs
Who cut the flowers.

They can nurture the land
Because they nurture all life.
