Hagar, Matron Saint of the Deported

Whither thou goest, Hagar?

They call it your home
But you have never lived there.

They say it’s where you belong
But you do not know the customs.

They say you are returning to your own people
Whose language you do not speak.

You are promised descendants too numerous to count –
But what does that matter
When you have no true home?
